What is Technology Coaching?
When you first learned of technology coaching you most likely said "I don't need a coach ... I can figure this stuff out myself " or you associated it with sports coaching or therapy. While technology coaching has some similarities to these professions there are significant differences
Besides ... is it good use of your time to spend hours and hours figuring out something when it would only take some time with your coach ?? (This is called an AH-HA Moment!)
According to the International Coach Federation (ICF): Coaching is an ongoing relationship which focuses on clients taking action toward the realization of their visions, goals, desires or dreams.
The major difference between coaching and therapy is that coaching assumes people are already healthy. They just need some help in getting trained, organized and focused. Coaching DOES NOT attempt to heal or resolve past personal issues!
Why do clients hire a technology coach?
Clients hire a coach to get support to resolve a technical or business challenge or to attain a desired end or ongoing result.
Many times a client will confide that their coaching session is the only place that someone really listens to them. A coach generally doesn't have a personal attachment or hidden agenda, and can give a truly objective or "unbiased" opinion or solution. A coaches job is to support you the client to be successful, and a coach often has the experience or knowledge to get you moving in the "right" direction!
In General, a Technology Coach will support clients to:
- Create an organized and focused technology plan
- Find organization in the career that they love
- Manage their time better
- Build their business and so forth ...
Whatever challenge you have, your coach will likely have a solution to be worked through and implemented!
Where does the coaching session take place?
Most often, coaching sessions occur in person at your office or place of business. However, many times coaching can occur over the phone or if a technology issue or training is to occur, directly connected to your computer through the internet. Your individual circumstances will dictate how, where and when!
With telephone coaching, it's convenient for you the client as you travel no further than your phone for a session!
With internet coaching, your computer will be connected temporarily with your coaches computer so that you may benefit by seeing exactly how something is performed, accomplished or done, or what the expected end result should look like ...
Many effective coaches offer 3-4 weekly sessions per month. The length of sessions is usually 30 minutes in duration, although some coaches offer longer sessions.
For individual phone coaching, most coaches charge on a monthly basis and fees are payable in advance. Monthly fees for 3-4 coaching sessions by telephone of thirty minutes duration range from $200-$500+ depending upon what needs to be accomplished.
Other forms of coaching can include email coaching, coaching via instant messenger or coaching on an ‘as needed basis’
